WE WALK TOGETHER CHARLOTTE

November 15, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 pm

The LoveBolt is proud to collaborate on an informative walk with key stakeholders and champions for children’s education and our community’s future.

“Helping a child to read by the time they finish third grade …

is one of the greatest predictors of later success in school.”  – Read Charlotte

WHEN:  Monday, Nov. 15th, 8:30-10am.
WHERE:  Renaissance West STEAM Academy, 3241 New Renaissance Way, 28208.
WHAT:  Check out the resource list below that offers perspectives on current public education challenges. We will walk one mile with stops for commentary/questions. Wear masks and your WWTC t-shirt if you have one (or we will have extras available onsite). Helping lead our walk conversation will be:
WHO:
  • Munro Richardson – Exec. Dir of Read Charlotte, uniting partners to improve children’s literacy from birth to third grade
  • Ann Doss Helms – WFAE’s Education Reporter
  • Thelma Byers-Bailey – Vice Chair, District 2 Rep, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education
  • Education Leaders and Volunteers from the Augustine Literacy Project, Heart Math Tutoring, HELPS Tutoring, community partnerships and the Educational Equity Institute.
WHY CARE?  Reading proficiency in third grade is a critical predictor of school, career and life success. The pandemic has severely impacted CMS third grade reading scores. Mobilizing NOW is vital.
